Those of you who follow me on Instagram will already know that I have made a bet with my other half... The challenge is to eat totally clean until the end of the year. No sugar, wheat or dairy. Wine is the only exception as December is certainly not the right month to be cutting that one out! :-) We just haven't agreed yet what the winner or winners will actually win (apart from a healthier body!). I think a handbag (I've got a couple of options in mind) could be a good price but not sure he'll agree... I have no intentions of failing but wish me luck anyway, for just in case.
I thought these pictures would be quite appropriate for this post. This little dish here is one of my favourite ones to make for lunch especially if in a hurry; guacamole and prawns on a bed of rocket. So yummy!
I use red onion, fresh chillies, tomato and lemon (or lime) juice along with very ripe avocado to make my perfect guacamole. For two avocados I use one whole red chilli, nearly a whole red onion, a couple of cherry tomatoes and a juice of one lemon. I either smash it all up just by chopping everything really small and using a fork or if I can't be bothered to do that I use a hand blender. I like it quite chunky rather than all blended in.
I steam the prawns, only 2 - 3 minutes is normally enough depending on the size of them. I throw rocket on a plate, squeeze some lemon over it, pile guacamole on top and the prawns as the icing of the cake. A lot of black pepper and Himalayan salt. So good in every sense of the word!
Hope you've had a great weekend. Baby M and I are going to enjoy London on our own today. The other half of the family is in Disneyland Paris!
Minna x
Nyt kuulostaa ja näyttää niin herkulliselta! Just mun makuun! Viime aikoina onkin tullut syötyä ravintolaruokaa ihan tarpeeksi joten aika aloittaa taas kotiruoan valmistus.
ReplyDeleteSe on tosi hyvää, suosittelen kokeilemaan!
ReplyDeleteSe on tosi hyvää, en muista mistä sain idean syödä niitä yhdessä.
DeleteThis sounds we good. I would be keen on trying as well. Would be very interesting to read more about this! I totally understand the point of cutting sugar and wheat but what is "wrong" in dairy? :) Or maybe we here in Finland are just so forced to believe that dairy is good for you :)
ReplyDeleteWell I'll try and keep you guys posted on my progress! :-) Yes Finland is very much a dairy country and apparently UK used to be as well but not so much anymore. A lot of people are seeking alternatives for dairy in format of eg. almond or rice milk. There has been a whole lot of research suggesting that cow's milk is the opposite to good for humans. Apparently the countries that consume most dairy have the highest osteoporosis rates for starters! This apparently is due to the calcium in dairy not been processed well by the human body and the calcium you get from eg. greens being therefore much better. There are a whole lot of other angles than just the calcium one, I've only scratched the surface in what I've read but if you google it you'll find weeks worth to read ;-) I'm still in two minds myself as there is so much research about any subject but I must say cutting it out makes you feel much better plus if you want to control your weight is certainly helps.
DeleteI hear you! I am just still wondering, can you recommend some almond milk since last time I checked ingredients of one that I fould in S-Market, it started with "water, sugar..." :(
DeleteI know most of them come high in sugar... rice milks too. The almond milk I use is the only sugar free one I've managed to find, the brand is called EcoMil. Hope you manage to find it. In the UK I can just order it from Ocado with the rest of my groceries, very lucky. Don't get me wrong it doesn't taste great I'd never drink it outright but in a smoothie or porridge it's nice.
DeleteHow do you ensure your protein and calcium intake without dairy products? Obviously you are not vegetarian? I have just started taking extra soya protein as I am lacto-vegetarian.
ReplyDeleteNo I'm not vegetarian so I have no problem with getting enough protein to complement training as well. Calcium I get from certain greens that I eat a lot of.
Good luck!..
