WHAT I WORE: MAXI COVERUP AND A HAT BIG ENOUGH

My perfect beach coverup is long sleeved and maxi length. Comfortable and forgiving plus this time of the year warm enough. And guess what? I've always struggled to find hats as none of them normally fit. Well Rag & Bone do a size L that's just perfect for me! During pregnancies my skin reacted differently to the sun and despite wearing high SPF I suffered from pigmentation that now reappears if I as much as look at the sun. Therefore a hat together with the SPF50 is a must on a sunny day.

Dress: Missoni (old)

SANDY SATURDAY

Hi guys! I hope you're all enjoying a sunny weekend where ever you are! We had a lovely, fun day with friends yesterday returning to one of the most beautiful Cote D'Azur beaches, the Pampelonne in St Tropez. White sand and turquoise water never fail to look beautiful but there's something about the colours on the French Riviera that make everything look extra special.

We got settled on comfy sunbeds at Club 55.

We checked out what their boutique had to offer. So many beautiful sarongs!

But we ended up buying some buckets and spades instead.

The temperatures are not that high yet so I thought it was a safer option to wear shorts and long sleeves than a beach coverup. It's quite difficult to find nice looking denim shorts that actually cover your bottom properly (and trust me this bottom needs to be covered!) but these Rag & Bone Boyfriend ones are just perfect.

I have a nice week ahead of me as I'm getting two special guests from Finland and one from the UK.

Bye for now, see you soon!

TERRACE WITH A VIEW

I was quite sad to leave London. I even felt quite upset about it during the months and weeks leading to it. However as soon as I landed here I forgot about those feelings... Life here is just so relaxed and laid back. London is extremely hectic, you're always in a rush and never have enough time to do everything you'd like to. I'm sure I'll miss that busyness but right now I feel super happy and lucky to be here. And even better, I have friends here too.

The view from my friend's terrace is amazing. I didn't manage to get the camera to catch it properly so the pictures do it no justice. Somewhere down there the Cannes Film Festival is in full motion. Fingers crossed this nice weather continues. It seems that year after year the film stars have had rain pouring on their frocks for most part of the Festival but maybe this time they'll be lucky!

FLIGHT DELAYS AND DEAD BEES SERVED WITH HONEY

We got to the sunny (yay!) South of France yesterday a little bit later than intended. Our flight was supposed to depart in the morning but the French do love a strike and it so happened that the air traffic control staff were on one yesterday. We were told that our flight would take off with a mere seven hour delay. Nice. Rather annoying news to anyone let alone to a two and four year old. Had we been at Heathrow there would have been plenty to do but out of the ordinary we flew out of City Aiport, which is extremely convenient when it all goes well but not the most exciting place to hang out in for any longer than necessary. So off we went to kill time at a nearby Westfield shopping centre. That was great. We had some lunch and a nice play at their playground. We headed back to the airport hours earlier than the new scheduled departure time just to learn that in fact the flight had been brought forward and that it was leaving in five minutes! We legged it. Little M normally moans when she has to walk but this time she absolutely flew through security and the terminal holding onto the buggy or my hand and we made it indeed. Just.

The flight itself was a breeze. I feel like we're getting to the other side now... Both children know what they're expected to do and are happy with their iPads for longer periods of time. If I'm able to time the flight right Baby M will sleep, which she did today from take off to landing. Little M played with her iPad and I read magazines. No complaints. My on-flight snacks for them these days always include raisins and lollipops. Might sound a bit odd but both can keep a toddler preoccupied for a long time. Lollipops are sticky stuff but their happiness (read: silence) is worth the mess! A full pack of baby wipes is still an absolute must and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

So we arrived in France early evening. The girls entertained themselves by creating master pieces with their paint brushes whilst I got to work... I had about two hundred dead bees to clean away. Most of them were stuck in honey that was scattered all over the floor. It was quite "gusting" like Little M would say. You know how a dead insect will crunch in your fingers when you pick it up with some kitchen roll? Imagine a couple of hundred of them. It was really crunchy but with the honey it was sticky at the same time. Plus I felt sorry for the bees too! It's not something I'd like to do again in a hurry. What happened was that we had a bees nest in between a window and its shutter. Apparently there were around 40,000 bees in it!! Obviously the nest had to be destroyed... such a shame, poor bees. Wish they had set up their home somewhere where they were not going to be evicted!

When that was done we got all the toys out.

And Little M checked up on the flowers. She was very pleased with the results of her gardening.

In the comments some of you have been asking to see more of what I wear. I promised to try and do more of those posts. I will try and do them properly too but let's start with this. With children I always travel in comfortable jeans, a t-shirt and flats. I have my hair up in a bun and wear no makeup. I've tried having my hair down and wearing some mascara but it's a bit pointless. My hair ends up sticky with what ever the kids are eating and my mascara smudged. I don't wear any jewellery or belts that I'd have to take off when going through security (it's enough having to fold the buggy up and lift it up on the conveyor belt whilst making sure the girls are doing what they're supposed to and not running off) and my shoes must be easy to take off and put back on. These sandals are good as they have a zip at the back rather than a buckle.

Well that was a lot of text! If you've read this far, have a great weekend! :-)

MINESTRONE SOUP

Here's another child friendly recipe where you can hide some greens. A good friend of mine gave me the recipe for this pretty traditional Italian dish. My kids love it with some pasta and a little bit of grated parmesan on top - but I'm sure it's equally tasty without. I have mine with some fresh spinach and flat parsley on top.

You need:

  • 2 carrots
  • 1 stack of celery
  • 1 cup of dried split peas
  • 1 cup of dried cannellini beans
  • 1 small zucchini
  • 4-5 cloves of garlic
  • pinch of chilli (about 1/2 teaspoon)
  • handful of fresh spinach
  • handful of fresh flat parsley
  • handful of fresh basil
  • 4-5 medium size tomatoes
  • 2 cups of vegetable stock
  • pinch of black pepper
  • pinch of italian dried herb mix
  • pinch of Himalayan salt

Optional:
  • pasta
  • parmesan cheese

Before you make this dish check the cannellini beans you are using. Some you have to soak overnight. Check the ones you are using.

Take a big soup pot, add 1 cup of water, heat it up until it starts boiling. Peel and crush garlic. Add it to the pot with some chilli. Let the garlic soften a little. Wash and dice carrots and celery, add them with split peas and cannellini beans. Add 2 cups of vegetable stock and approx. 4-5 cups of water. Let it boil for about 15 minutes. Add washed and diced zucchini cubes.

Blend tomatoes in a blender until smooth and add to the soup. Chop spinach, basil and parsley and add with a pinch of black pepper, italian herb mix and salt. Let boil another 15 - 20 minutes until vegetables are soft and the soup gets a bit thicker. If you prefer a runnier consistency add more water.

LAST BREAKFAST

As you're reading this these little girls and I will be on a plane towards the sunny (I hope!) Nice. This was us having one of our last breakfasts in our London home. Little M is kindly helping me to mix the eggs.

What ever she does Baby M wants to copy so of course she had to have a go. She tasted it too but decided raw eggs weren't for her.

Cooked ones though are a different story. They love scrambled eggs! Even with big chunks of spinach.

Our next breakfast will be had in France. See you there!

RIVER CAFE

Let me do yet another restaurant post and introduce one more great London restaurant called River Cafe to you. This one is located by the river (funny that) in Fulham. Or maybe it's classed as Hammersmith. One or the other. I had heard about it a fair bit over the years but never gone. Probably due to pure laziness as it's that bit further. I mean it did take at least 15 minutes to get to from Notting Hill!

Apparently the space used to operate as a canteen to an Architect's office who then went ahead and turned it into the restaurant it is today.

The food is pure quality. You can tell that they take great pride in it. Everything was mouth watering.

This was their buffalo mozzarella starter. The garnishing was delicious. I think it was broad beans but I'm not sure... sorry! The menu, I hear, changes constantly.

Scallops. Another master piece of food.

My friend's grilled lobster.

And my salmon with zucchini fritti.

An incredible lemon tart. No staying off sugar that evening, I had to have a taste!

And a very creamy selection of ice creams.

This is how we spent our last Saturday night in London. I'm so glad our friends finally managed to persuade us to go to there! Why on earth did I not go before!?
