PUREOLOGY

I'm very lazy looking after my hair and my most common only treatment is wiping some left over coconut oil into my hair when I'm cooking.

I had a haircut in London not too long ago with my amazing hairdresser whom I've seen on a regular basis for the last 7 years or so and as my hair was dry like a hayfield he recommended this product: Pureology mask. Works wonders on a dry hair!

WHAT I WORE: IN DUBAI

So what does one wear in Dubai? I guess a lot of my wardrobe will be sitting redundant apart from during visits to Europe and from now when shopping on I shouldn't as much as look at anything else but summer clothes. There are obviously some rules too when it comes to choosing what to wear in Dubai. Shoulders and knees should be covered. To respect this the best possible item of clothing has got to be a maxi wrap dress with sleeves. Although having said that the v at the front is probably too low and therefore better worn with a cami underneath. The dress in these pictures is an old one from DVF. This season they have it in a few different prints and colours out of which this is my favourite one.

(Here a demonstration of the negative sides (literally) of hair extensions. If you let them dry naturally without brushing this is what they look like from behind. Or at least mine did! Not the best look. However... I'm now free of them and intend to stay that way.)

Have a smashing Saturday ladies (and gentlemen...?)!

ABOUT HAIR EXTENSIONS

A few of you have asked about my hair extensions in the comment box so I thought I'd show you the pictures from when it was first done. Basically the hair type I had (it's all gone now, my head feels awfully light... ) is called Russian Virgin Hair. What this means is that it is hair that has never been treated eg. coloured. And yes, it really was cut off from someone else's head! Better not think about it too much if you're going to have them done... The good thing about this hair type is that it looks and feels completely natural. Your Stylist will colour it to match your hair rather than you choosing from different colour options. In the above picture you can see "my" hair before it was attached.

And this is what the back of my skull looked like during the process. Basically strands of hair are glued to the roots of your own hair. There are apparently other methods to attach hair extensions too but glueing is what my Stylist uses. Guess how long it took to do mine...? SEVEN hours! Ha! My bottom was a bit numb when it was finished. As far as I understand it will normally take about half of that. I happen to have a lot of my own hair plus an unusually large space to attach it to (read: a big head) that it was the biggest extension job my Hairdresser had ever done. On top of that my hair was so short and badly cut that to cover the last layer of my own hair she had to put extensions unusually high towards the top of my head.

Getting there... (This phase really doesn't look very pretty does it!?) By the way the story behind me wanting to have hair extensions was that I had a "trim" in France last summer... The Hairdresser didn't really speak English, I don't speak many words of French and the result was something that nearly brought me to tears. Short and butchered describes it well. Lessons learned: do NOT have a hair cut by someone you don't have a common language with and do NOT not look up from your phone the entire duration of the "trim".

All ready! The extensions were put in early September and I only had them removed on Friday. I did have them untangled once in between plus additional strands put in once too. I now need to get used to living with a lot less hair before I decide whether to have extensions one more time until my own hair has reached the length and shape I'm happy with.

Any Londoners out there who fancy extensions I recommend Ruth (07973 402 188) who did mine. She is mobile so will come to you.

WHAT I WORE: LEATHER AND BLAZER ONCE AGAIN

Another unpublished outfit post from last year, this time already in our current home though, in our mini garden. Which, by the way has so far only been used once for cigar smoking (not me!!) plus a couple of other times for watering plants (not me either but Little M who reckons they need watering despite all the rain).

By the way I have a little hair announcement to make; my hair extensions are coming off today, scary! I will feel bald! However I'm desperate to get rid of them as they now feel like one big mess hanging off the back of my head. I'm not going to re-do them straight away. Maybe I won't re-do them at all. I'm going to give it a few weeks before deciding. What ever happens I'll only keep them until the summer. I promised that to the other half who doesn't hate many things as much as hair extensions. It's not like I'm a fan of the idea of them in general either but I must say if you're unhappy with the length or thickness of your hair go for it.

So this outfit... I wore it to a dinner but one could easily wear it to a smart lunch or even to work. I think leather trousers or leggings are these days a definite wardrobe staple. They spice up any outfit that would otherwise be quite plain and go with absolutely anything.

Blazer: Carven (very old and slightly altered but a brighter blue option here)
T-Shirt: Sandro
Leather Leggings: Joseph (I came across these wallet friendly alternatives)
Pumps: Jimmy Choo (old but they have these lovely pumps in their sale)
Clutch: YSL (old but love this and this one if searching for a black clutch in the sales)
Cuff: Hermes ( probably never in the sale... but in the current sales I love this and this alternative. Also are you familiar with Vestiaire? If not check it out ;-))
Nail Polish: Shellac, Romantica

MANE THINGS FIRST

As silly as this may seem I thought I better explain what has happened to my hair as I know I will get asked when you see a picture of me on the blog... :-)

1. Early this year I had my long hair cut to a long bob. I quite liked it.

2. I headed down to South of France for the summer and within the first week of sun on my hair the colour turned a very cheap shade of blonde. I turned to a local French hairdresser who gave me a much nicer colour however the "trim" he gave me ended up being a bit more like a butchering that gave me a hairstyle that someone I know calls the "newsreader" look. I hated it... With passion.

3. I disliked the newsreader look so much that I decided to go for hair extensions. So that's where we are at currently. I've also decided to grow out my natural colour and forget about the super blonde look. I think it's time; after all I'm nearer to 40 than 30!

When I think back to my long history of different hair styles the one I liked it the most was when I was in my teens and my hair was long, healthy and very close to my natural colour or even a touch darker. You live and learn. Right, now that's out of the way and I can start posting ;-)
